Sports Director
Doug Sherman has been Sports Director at CBS 6 since 1997. And he has been a part of the CBS 6 sports team since 1995. Doug previously worked at WSTM-TV in Syracuse, and WENY-TV in Elmira. Through his work experience, and having been born and raised in Upstate New York, Doug's network of contacts allows him to offer the most informed sportscasts in the Capital District.
Doug's work is best known for its volume, depth, and quality of local sports coverage. Siena, UAlbany, RPI, Union, St. Rose, and HVCC receive top coverage on CBS 6. While the local pro teams like the River Rats, the Adirondack Frostbite, and the Tri-City Valleycats are staples of CBS 6 sports coverage.
But it is the highlights and stories about Section-2 High School athletics, that truly separates Doug and the rest of the local TV market. CBS 6 has by far the most comprehensive coverage of local High School football, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, wrestling, softball, soccer, track and field, volleyball, and hockey in the Capital District.
Since 1996 Doug has been "The Voice of the MAAC", calling play-by-play of men's and women's college basketball games aired on MSG Television Network. If there is a big Siena hoop game at the Pepsi Arena, you can be sure to find Doug at the center of it all, bringing you the action. Doug has also done play-by-play for ESPN+.
Prior to venturing into television, Doug spent four years as Sports Director at WPTR-radio in Albany, where he also served as "The Voice of Siena Basketball" from 1989 until 1993.
The NYS Emmys, the NYS Broadcasters Association, the Associated Press, the Times Union, and Metroland have each recognized Doug's work since he joined CBS 6 in 1995. He is a graduate of Syracuse University's prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. He and his wife Sherry make their home in Glenville.
