Tide Buzz Ultrasonic Stain Remover $49.99 Tester Grade: B
That's right... imagine the worst stains you could get on a white T-shirt. Our volunteers did... and set out to see if Tide Buzz could tackle them. Sound of plastic bag It's a tradition... among this group of college students. Background chatter... "Ooh those are spicy." A wing eating competition.... Henry Lampman/Schenectady: "These girls right here thought they could eat more wings than us guys." So we had the group put on white T-shirts we bought for them... and get started... Shots of them putting on shirts Henry Lampman: "Get as messy as you want." They did get messy. Helen Smith: "There's a lot of extra sauce on this one so I'm just going to wipe it off a little." And more messy... and more messy. Shots of girls' shirts getting worse as they wipe sauce on them Henry Lampman thought this would be a good challenge for the new Tide Buzz. Henry Lampman/Schenectady: "Sometimes some stains are very stubborn and they don't want to leave. I'm always interested in testing new stuff, especially when they make grand, large claims." Tide Buzz claims to use "breakthrough technology" and "ultrasonic cleaning" to remove virtually all stains. The appliance costs about 50 bucks though. Henry Lampman: "Seems complicated." But Henry got some direction in the directions... and plugged it in. But he wouldn't start till they took one of the shirts and got more stains on it. Grass (shot of friend in grass).... rust from an old pipe .... oil from the engine block in his friend's pickup... and red wine. Then, he started Tide Buzz... and tested grass first: Henry Lampman: "That little piece went away, all right." But would it work on wing sauce? Henry Lampman: "It's actually breaking up the little stain particles and pushing them into the pad." The pads are supposed to absorb the stain as the wand forces it out of your clothes. He wanted to see if rust would come out too. Henry Lampman: "Take a look at that." He said Tide Buzz worked best on the rust stain. It only got rid of little wine... Henry Lampman: "Not so good." The last test... engine grease. Henry Lampman: "There's less engine grease where there used to be a huge blob of it." So even though the shirt still looked pretty scary... Henry had kind things to say about what made it look better. Henry Lampman: "I was impressed, I thought it wouldn't work at all... but turns out, it does a fairly decent job of returning small tiny stains." Henry said this may not be your best bet for large stains.... especially when you consider the cost for Tide Buzz. When we left him he'd stopped worrying about stains though... and got back to worrying about wings. Shot of them eating at end Oh, as for that wing competition, the girls won. Tide Buzz is available at Walmart, Target, Kmart, Kohls, Sears, Linens & Things and Bed, Bath, & Beyond Stores.
