Pittsfield set to honor shuttle's mission specialist
(Pittsfield, MASS - AP) The city where shuttle Discovery's Stephanie Wilson grew up is planning a celebration in honor of the mission specialist when she returns home. The 39-year-old Wilson is a 1984 Taconic High School graduate. She is carrying items into space from the three Pittsfield schools that she attended. Wilson has said that she would like to return those items to Pittsfield when her mission is over, but didn't know when she would be able to appear in Massachusetts. NASA officials say the crew probably will not be released from its debriefing sessions until mid-to-late August. The 13-day mission began July Fourth, and Discovery docked with the international space station yesterday morning Pittsfield Mayor James Ruberto has formed an ad hoc committee consisting of several community individuals to determine what form the celebration should take.
