CBS 6 News Weeknights |
Anchor/Money Editor
For almost three decades, Jack Aernecke has kept Capital Region viewers informed on news happening in and around the area. His long service to our community has made Jack one of the region's most trusted news authorities.
Jack brings you the news each weekday evening at 5pm with co-anchor Sue Nigra, and at 5:30 co-anchor Liz Bishop joins Jack. On CBS 6 News at 5:30, Jack brings you the latest news on personal finance and area business in his "Eye On Money" report. Viewers count on Jack for information that helps them get the most out of life. Jack came to CBS 6 in 1972 as a General Assignment Reporter after working for several area radio stations.
Among his career highlights, in 1992 Jack was the first capital district television reporter to provide an intimate look at Albany's sister city of Tula, Russia. On a return trip in 1996, he focused on how the developing relationship is fostering international understanding. Jack was also in south Florida in the aftermath of hurricane Andrew, and coordinated the Channel 6 effort to collect tons of supplies for the victims of the flood ravaged Mississippi River basin. On September 11, 2001, moments after the terrorist attacks, Jack left for the New York City area to anchor CBS 6’s coverage looking for people with Capital Region connections helping with the rescue and recovery efforts. In July 2000, Jack traveled to Austin, Texas to report on the impact of computer chip manufacturing plants on a community that had been similar to the Capital Region before chip-fabs led to incredible growth. The announcement in July, 2002, that International Sematech is locating a chip research facility in Albany means the Capital Region may be facing similar growth and needs to be prepared.
Jack co-hosts the Labor Day Muscular Dystrophy Telethon with Liz Bishop as well as the Arthritis Telethon with Tom Mailey. In 1994 the CBS 6 Arthritis Telethon was selected by the Arthritis Foundation as the best in the nation.
Jack is a native of Central Bridge, Schoharie County, New York. He lives in Schenectady with his wife, Kathleen. Their son Matthew, is a graduate of Wagner College on Staten Island, and is working toward his Master’s Degree from John Jay College in Manhattan.
